Do we really need Web Site CMS?
At first let’s clarify what abbreviation "CMS" means.
CMS is Content Management System. The aim and objectives of such systems is management, filling and editing of the information and graphics by the customer. Briefly, this is the system which gives an opportunity to change and add sections, edit site content, change graphics and design of the site and not to turn to professional help.
With the CMS development the site management became much easier and much more convenient. Web site content management tool is addition to a web site and costs extra money, but it is profitable because without CMS you have to pay for maker-up services. There are some more pluses: you change the information when it is necessary, you do not depend on anybody and the changing of information with the help of CMS will not lead to any site operating irregularity.
Web based content management can be attractive to different companies: starting from the companies which need to support their site to web studios which deal with site development. But first of all, content management tool is absolutely necessary to companies which constantly update and advance their site.
CMS has following advantages:
The use of CMS does not require professional technical training. Almost every user can work with CMS and manage the site with its help: add and delete articles, different modules – everything that makes a site;
CMS can be successfully integrated into intracorporate information system and serve for organization of document circulation;
CMS can work in connection with document circulation system. This is very convenient when site is considered not as just a form of advertising and presence in the cyberspace but as some kind of electronic office. When some piece of information is changed within the company, these changes are reflected right away on the site;
CMS can be used as a tool of arranging the site as channel of interrelationships with company’s clients. This opens new opportunities in the area of clients’ "fidelity" support: the information on the site is mobile; there is an opportunity to make some sections aimed at certain clients password-accessible. This is very convenient if there is clear client segmentation in the company;
CMS allows editing of the information by several administrators. This function is very useful when company has the whole net of dealers but one site. There can be clear separation of rights on editing separate sections by different people. In this case administrators can be situated in different corners of the globe. So, you can arrange the data collection from different resources (dealers can enter results of their sales; distant warehouses can place the information on availability of commodities at the warehouse). You get the automated tool of support of actual information on the site by distributing the information filling work between your branches, departments etc.
CMS is economically sound when organizing intracorporate systems and information portals.
If you decided that you need CMS, we suggest that CMS should be set up by the software company which developed your site. This variant is the most correct because the system is adjusted to your site from the very beginning and this will have a positive effect upon CMS functioning.
Of course there are other variants. For instance, you can buy a ready Content Management solution and just set it up to your site on your own or turn to developers’ help, who will install CMS and set it up to already developed site.
