A Real Vacation from Life
There have been many times in my life where I, and many others I know, have wanted to get away from it all. The need to escape that frustration and annoyance of reality has hit many. That desire for a vacation usually manifests itself in many different ways. One way this vacation itch manifests itself is when the stress levels are high and you have piles of work that keep coming you suddenly stop caring. You donít care about you responsibilities anymore and you just want to curl up under your bed or snap completely and become that postal worker that everyone fears. Another way you know that you need a vacation is while you are at work time seems to stop. You are working at your computer and you think ďhey, I've been working forever like an hour or something.Ē However, you come to the horrible realization as you look at the clock that it has only been two minutes and you break down into tears fearing that work will never end.
If you have experienced any of those symptoms or anything similar to them, it is probably time to take a vacation. However, I feel that I must make a confession; I have never been on a vacation. I am talking about a real vacation, going somewhere that I picked out and doing things that I wanted to do. I have been in school for my entire life and when I get time off I am usually working so that I can pay bills or I try to visit my family. When I have been able to go on a vacation they have always consisted of family vacations. Family vacations are great and the memories and black mail stories will always be something that I will look fondly on. However, when you are done with the family time you usually need another vacation to recover from all the family fun and togetherness.
I need a vacation. I need to escape reality and go somewhere where there are no responsibilities on my part. But where do I start? Where would I go? And once I got there what would I do? The romantic that I am dreams of just jumping in my car and taking off with no plans, no rules and just fly by the seat of my pants to see where life will take me. However, the practical part of me knows that actually planning something out will be more effective and will cause less hassles and stress. I am a pretty easy going person, but I need to have some structure. So, armed with nothing but an idea I decided to hit the internet because it has everything that you could possible need to plan a great vacation.
One of the first things that I needed to do in planning my vacation is picking where I would like to go. For me it seems that every week it changes, I just want to leave and go somewhere. This week it is Cape Cod. I have always heard about this mysterious place in Massachusetts, but I have no information about it. I just hear from everyone that if I go I need to try the clam chowder. I donít even like clam chowder, but apparently I need to try it.
Now, that I have a place I need to figure out how to get there. Me, personally I like to fly, itís easier and often times cheaper. Finding flights have become easy with the help of such sites like Travelocity, Expedia or Priceline. What I have found is that you need to try them all and get quotes from many sources because they tend to change on a regular basis. Some of these sites even have e-mail alerts where they will e-mail you information on the price of flights on places where you picked that you wanted to go. Itís really a nice and convenient way to keep track of your possible flights without having to check the individual site everyday.
Now that you have your flight, it is now time to find a place to stay and find that perfect entertainment in your vacation destination. Some sites will try and book a hotel and a flight together because it can be easier and cheaper. But I would suggest seeing if the place that you are going has a website. That is usually the best resource for finding lodging, dining spots and what to do in the city or place once you get there. For Cape Cod they have Cape Cod online and it is a great resource for everything Cape Cod. They have web cams, dining guides, hotel guides, entertainment guides all in one location. Almost every place that you can imagine to go to has a website with information about the area. Some of course are better than others and some make you work a little for the information you want.
I guess the advice that I would have to give it that you vacation seekers is to try and have patience, remain optimistic when searching for information online and try not to shoot that co-worker that stands way too close and only talks about what his fish did the night before.
