Opportunity

Opportunity comes to everyone no matter one's social standing, education or personal circumstances.

Bankei lives beside a garbage dump in a small village. Bankei is 11 years old and he spends his days from sun up to sun set scavenging the dump for food and anything that he can find of value that he can trade for food or clothing. Now, because he lives in such a poor village, there is seldom found anything of worth that he can trade.

Bankei decided very early in life that he would not accept his life as it was-he would move from this village and become successful. He would do it by becoming a wealthy merchant. As he sat exhausted on a rock near the heap of the day's garbage, well picked through, it came to him. Since his sixth birthday he has worked to find just enough food to feed himself. All of the children did exactly the same thing and for a day's work, they could live another day.

There were no other opportunities in this village, and the other villages, were very much the same. He was told by his parents when they were alive that one was born rich or poor-that's just the way it was. If you were born poor, there would be no chance or hope of being anything else. Bankei was encouraged to work the garbage dump and keep himself alive and pass on anything extra to others. Bankei was an only child, taller and a little brighter than most of the kids in his village. Others looked up to him and admired the stories of hope that he would tell them.

Bankei did not believe that he would always live this way. He believed that if he had the chance he would move away, to a bigger and more prosperous village. He would no longer dig in garbage for his food.

Bankei was very observant and during his days on the garbage pile he found things, mostly small objects that others had passed over. He saved these objects and hid them away in a very special place in the forest. It was his idea that he would save anything of value other than what he could eat, and having gathered as much as he could carry-move into another village to trade for better food and clothing. Each and every day, Bankei worked just a little longer, to find just one thing that he could add to his collection.

Everything that he picked up was an opportunity for a better life. He was aware enough to know that what he had collected, had value to others, and therefore made him more valuable. Four more years in his village brought him to a point where he had collected as much as he could carry and he made the decision to leave.

Years of dreaming of another life gave him the strength, to move quickly without hesitation, and when another opportunity came up to leave, there was nothing that could hold him back. A group of men had stopped by the village on their journey. Bankei was quick to welcome them and offered to fetch water. Bankei was eager to hear their stories and quickly ingratiated himself into their circle.

Then as quickly as they came into the village-they left! Only, they left with one other person-Bankei, and a sack of dreams that would soon become a major burden to carry.

Four days from his village, he found himself in a much larger village. There were many people with shops, roads and a village well. Bankei's mind started racing as they walked to the town square and the centre of activity. One of the first things that stood out for him was that there were kids playing in the village square, and this was still early in the day. Should they not be working in the dump?

The party settled down for the night at the grassy edge of the village. When Bankei woke up in the morning, the men were gone, leaving him and his sack of treasures. Excited by the new prospects of living in a village of more opportunity, Bankei hid his sack and made his way towards the village well for an early morning drink before he would start trading for food. Bankei was not more than a few moments at the well, and when he returned to his place of rest, he found his sack of treasure had been stolen. Bankei threw himself down into the matted grass shaking with anger and disbelief. Tears overwhelmed his drawn face and swollen eyes flooded the grass and parched earth below.

Reminded of his solemn vow to better himself and not give up, Bankei dragged his feet back to the village square. A stranger in town, he was noticed by many, and the villagers began asking him questions. One particular villager befriended him and took Bankei to his family's hut where he was welcomed as a very special guest. In gratitude for the hospitality of this family Bankei offered to help where he could. The oldest children and parents worked for a farmer of good stature and prominence in the area.

In the fields where Bankei worked he noticed wire staples lying along the fence line, that workers had dropped, while erecting the fences. He began gathering the staples and stored them is a safe place under his cot. Before and after the harvesting season Bankei managed to gather hundreds of these staples and nails. In an older less used section of this sprawled out farmland, Bankei found many small things that workers had dropped or lost. Always a gatherer and opportunist, Bankei soon had his stolen sack of treasure replaced with another-an assortment of staples, nails and broken hand tools.

Bankei learned of a much larger village a few days walk through the forest-a village where homes had wooden roofs and glass in the panes. Dwellings that were held together with nails and yards that were fenced. Bankei recognized the opportunity for what it was, and he set out to sell his nails, staples and repaired tools to these new friends in need.

Bankei never made it to the village. While transversing a fast moving river, he slipped and fell into the deeper water and was swept away. A ten minute struggle for life ended up on a rocky bank. Bruised and bleeding Bankei climbed to the muddy shore and quickly passed out from exhaustion.

Bankei awoke some time later to the sounds of voices around him. Some local residents stumbled upon his battered body and brought him to their small town. A woman of much kindness took care of his wounds and nurtured him back to health. In gratitude, love, and respect Bankei stayed with her. During this time she brought to him, his manhood, and taught him how to care for himself and others. She was a very positive person as well, and taught Bankei the value of always imagining a positive future.

She was an assistant to an aging local doctor, who also took Bankei under his wing and taught him the art of medicine and healing. Bankei's gift of "observations" made him an excellent student, and his gentle ways brought him respect from local town's people as well as neighbouring villagers.

Bankei married his guardian angel, and 11 months later they had there first child. About a year later, the doctor died of natural causes, and Bankei took over his practice. Because of his prominence in the town, Bankei was elected to the town council and his new family and practice flourished.
…………………

Bankei started off his life with nothing. He started at the very bottom, scratching for food in a garbage dump. But there was one thing that he knew-he would not live this way forever.

Bankei made a decision early in his young life-he would work a little extra each day to save and improve his circumstances. His "root thought" was that he would be successful. He imagined himself as a successful merchant living in a village selling things.

It may not seem that he got what he desired-to be a successful merchant. However, being a successful merchant was not his first thought. Being successful, moving, and not eating from a garbage dump where his root thoughts, and all his actions lead him to the manifestation of these two desires. Collecting the objects to sell were instruments of his intention and they lead him away from the garbage dump. They also lead him into places of opportunities where he could make choices that would bring him what he most desired mostly-success! Every foot step along his chosen path brought him success, although it may not have looked like it at the time.

Determination and purpose brought the circumstances into his life that would attract success. The power of intention was the force behind the manifestation of success.

There is no one living under any conditions that cannot improve or change their circumstances. Bankei had only one real thought-success, and that is what he manifested. One is always successful if they understand how the system works.

If I want a million dollars because that will make me "happy"-I may get, "happy," but not the million dollars. I may also get the million dollars and not find happiness. It is in the need for us to try and control the process that we loose site of what we really want. A step towards the million dollars will bring it, if that is what we desire. In Bankei's case a step towards success brought it to him, but not in the manner that he chose. I was careful to use two different words in this story, that appear to have the same meaning, but do not. "Want" and "desire" are words that work differently in the process of manifesting. You do not have a thing until you stop wanting it. Wanting is a word that indicates that you do not have. The fastest way to get what you desire is to know that you already have it. "It is my greatest desire to be more successful" suggests that you are already successful. Therefore more success will automatically come your way because you can only be what you already are. If you are a person that is in the state of wanting-wanting is what you will experience.

The expression, "be careful what you wish for-you may get it" is absolute truth in manifesting the things that you desire. Most of us don't really know what we desire, and we keep changing our minds, if we don't think things are working the way they should be. The secret to getting what you desire is to know what it is first, then, take the first step towards it. Make the choices that will take you there. Opportunities will keep coming your way until you have what you desire. It is a natural law that you always get what you think about.

Most of us do this very well on a subconscious level. It can also be done effectively on a conscious level, on demand, with a little practice and self control. The only thing that stands in your way of getting what you desire, is your own thoughts. There is no one undeserving or incapable of getting all that they desire-no matter what their present circumstances. I know this from a spiritual connection to all others and from my own personal experience.

You always get another opportunity. Opportunity always knocks more than once. If you don't believe that, then you already know why you are not getting what you desire.
