Massimo Iosa Ghini - Modern Furniture Designer
The ‘Tran-Tran’ collection designed by Italian furniture designer Massimo Iosa Ghini whose proactive mind has taken him from designing comic strips to designing objects, sets, studio equipment and producing various art-movies and graphic clips, bringing him to the design of “Dinamic” - based on the formal use of the 'curve', viewed as an element which can be controlled through electronic production management systems. This piece won Iosa Ghini the Roscoe Award in the U.S.A setting a trend for European furniture design that has never looked back. His projects have been illustrated in publications throughout the world and are exhibited in private collections and contemporary art and design museums, from the London Design Museum to the Pompidou Centre.

Another keen Italian furniture designer for B.R.F. is Marko Maran who has won awards like the IF, Goed Industrial Ontwerp and the Australian Design Award. His mission is to create ideas and objects inspired by a constant reflection on our lives and lifestyles that fall in well with the growing awareness for making the home a satisfying emotional comfort zone, where maintenance is at the minimum. A statement in modern furniture design!
Furniture designers like Marco Maran are aware of this and more than happy to oblige with designs that are technology driven. In 1994 he obtained a special distinction at the Young & Design competition for the chair "Ciak" with a tip-up seat. In 1995 he received the first prize at Young&Design as the best young Designer with the chair "Sinué" in plastic, going on to win the prestigious International Grandesign Award with the CHIACCHERA and also the IIDA Product Design Achievement Awards for the SCOOP chair.
Prospero Rasulo - Modern Furniture Designer
The strong "Plastic" theme of Prospero Rasulo and his wish to give a third dimension to his works that are never flat but intentionally voluminous, took a natural turn toward modern furniture design.
Jerszy Seymour - Modern Furniture Designer
The Berlin born furniture designer, Jerszy Seymour’s work, the Bonnie and Clyde sofa combines a sense of fun with innovative use of materials and a raunchy wit. Playstation Chair is part-armchair, part-chaise longue, part-foot stool and part-table because the rounded hollow of the seat stretches out into a footstool or table on which the sitter can eat a meal or play with their Playstation. Because the polyurethane foam structure has no internal supports, it is also light and easily portable. Presently working out of Milan, Jerszy’s work is pure fun with polyurethane and as he describes “is a way of mixing and scratching culture.”
Spacify provides a virtual storehouse for home-makers who are conscious of molding their own lifestyle philosophies with a greater awareness for making the home a satisfying emotional comfort zone, giving the word ‘nesting’ new dimensions. Designer furniture is now not only affordable but comes in a fusion of materials that define state-of-the-art compositions, textures and colors. Furniture designers are sensitive to the issues of ecology and work with materials like Eco Leather and Techno Leather which are 83% PVC with 17th % synthetic support.
The modern furniture design has evolved into more than just an object of function and ergonomics. It has evolved into a multi billion dollar industry with all major manufacturers vying for the best furniture designers to promote their brand. Welcome to the design conscious world, a reminiscent of renaissance period when design was at its pinnacle in Italy.
