How effective is self help methods in coping with anxiety disorder.

Stress, fear, dread and anxiety that plague an individual in its mild form is easily extinguishable in matter of hours, days or weeks. In contrary, anxiety disorder can exacerbate into a vicious cycle of endless worry, fear and anxiety that can manifest into a chronic condition both physically and psychologically. Sometimes, the issue of concern is that sufferer of anxiety disorder may not admit or even recognize that they are suffering from anxiety disorder. Once this has been dealt with, the person can explore the variety of medication and non-medication treatments available for coping with and controlling anxiety disorder, with self help form of treatments that can provide relief to anxiety and stress.

What do I mean by that? Simply, that you can help yourself in the short term to cope with your anxiety attacks whilst deciding on a proper course of treatment to cure your anxiety. Its not too difficult and can be accomplished without too much fuss or fanfare. Simple everyday things that you can incorporate into your daily life will become part of your anxiety self help routine.

Talking through your feelings with your supportive listeners who may include your close family members, friends, relatives or even co-workers of purpose-support group, has often been proven to be effective in diminishing the intensity of your anxiety or panic disorder. You have braced up and come so far to admitting your condition, do not fear to talk about and tell your loved ones about your condition and need for their special understanding and continual support. As far as they are concerned, they appreciate an understanding of your condition so that they can render their support and encouragement to assist you in your recovery process. Therefore, always keep a list of phone numbers of your contacts with you! When an attack is imminent, contact the persons on your phone list and talk to them; they can be there as your supportive listener.

Another useful self help strategy is to practice relaxation methods that can include muscular relaxation techniques, swimming, stretching and so forth. By carrying out relaxation methods in a non-excessive and tolerable manner, it can prove helpful in lowering the anxiety, dread or fear of anxiety disorder.

Breathing properly and in a meditative manner is another great must-do in the anxiety self help department and is one of the easiest methods available to you. You can do this anywhere and anytime that you feel a panic attack coming on. Proper breathing techniques can be learned through a variety of methods and can even be self learnt if you can find the correct documentation on it.

There are more great anxiety self help methods available though Ive only mentioned a few here and you can try one or all of them to find out one that suits you, and that you can utilize when you feel a panic attack or an anxiety attack coming on. Remember though that these anxiety self help methods might not be able to cure your anxiety disorders and are only meant to help you cope with your anxiety attacks. For a cure, proper medical attention should be sought as soon as possible.
