Diet Pills Under Scrutiny
Until recently, manufacturers of diet pills and other "magic" weight loss aids could make almost any claim they wanted regarding their products performance. Now the Federal Trade Commission has stepped in and is imposing fines on companies who make ridiculous claims about their weight loss success stories.
While the FTC hasn't been bold enough to remove these products from the shelves they are requiring the manufacturers to back up their claims with science. If they can't prove their claims they get hit up with some hefty fines.
To date, fines have been levied against marketers of Xenedrine EFX, One a Day Weight Loss, Cortislim and Trimspa. While the exact amount of the fines is unknown, hopefully it will make these manufacturers and others think before they offer future products with false promises.
Diet pills aren't the only medium that makes false claims regarding weight loss. There are numerous diet programs and weight loss books that do just the same. It is hoped the FTC will target these next.
With the FTA information, it is hoped individuals will realize the answer to permanent weight loss doesn't come in a pill. Nor does it come in some special crash diet. These methods may give some short term success but often result in regaining even more weight in the long run.
There's no getting around good nutrition and exercise for long term weight loss. While most weight loss supplements on the market aren't worth a grain of salt there are a few healthy supplements that can give you a little help:
* Hoodia. An appetite suppressant
* Free fatty acids. Omega 3's and alpha lipoic acid have been shown to help with fat loss.
* Green Tea. Full of antioxidents and raises metabolic rate.
* Chromium Picolinate. Helps regulate blood sugar and insulin levels which assist with fat reduction.
* Fiber. Eating lot's of fiber in your diet keeps you full.
While the above supplements have been shown to help with fat loss they won't work like a miracle diet pill. You still need to eat a properly balanced diet and exercise.
Health professionals are happy to see the actions taken by the FTC. While it won't eradicate all the crazy diet information on the market hopefully it will make consumers think twice before trying a product that doesn't work or may be potentially dangerous to their health
