Why a Guy Like Joe Needs a Career Coach
WHY A GUY LIKE JOE NEEDS A CAREER COACH
Joe is out of a job. He needs work. How does an "ordinary Joe" find a new job?
First, he stoically tells only his intimate circle and family that he needs a job.
Next, he half-heartedly looks in the local newspaper to find something he can do. (Not only does he not find anything in the newspaper to apply for, he is stumped about WHAT to apply for in the first place). It looks like Joe needs a career coach.
Joe, again seeks out information from his immediate circle of intimates. No one knows of anyone that can help him with the details of finding a new job. By a fluke, someone refers him to his local community college. Golly, he goes there and finds out that the counseling center has people on staff that can work with the public to find new jobs.
Joe has found, by chance, a person who will help him with finding a job. That staff/expert at the community college does this. First, he takes some assessment tests that are reasonable in price. He is astonished that he does have special knowledge in a few fields and his skills are ones that employers want.
His new found "coach" is trained to help him with some of his personal problems associated with job loss, such as low self esteem and poor communication skills, plus a lack of specific job goals.
Joe is not unique in his floundering and coping with job loss. He is everyman. Joe is lucky. He found someone to help him find a job. Someone who takes him seriously as a person and will help him answer some of his vexing questiions about himself and his work future.
