You can see motor scooters all over the world, particularly in large cities with traffic problems, but now they are becoming a popular way of getting around in the USA too.

Many Italians would be lost without their scooter, not only in Rome but also in the other cities too. This is because the tradition of owning and riding motor scooters not only started there but soon became a way of life.

Motor scooters, whilst retaining their Italian heritage, style and class, have managed to keep up with technological innovations over the last 60 years. The scooters on the road nowadays retain the sleek lines of the original models, whilst at the same time achieving superb economy of gas, particularly in relation to four wheeled transportation. Modern mechanical improvements to the original specifications have further ensured reliability to match the 21st Century image these motor scooters now have.

Throughout the world scooters are a mode of transport enjoyed by millions of people. They are made in many countries to the same rigorous standards, and bargains are available in the USA from such places as China in the form of the Geely scooters which exactly replicate their European cousin’s designs and craftsmanship.

Some designs replicate famous eras from the history of motor scooters such as the ‘Mod’ era in England in the 1960’s and indeed the original Vespa. Others have a bit more engine capacity such as the Wasp (vespa means wasp in Italian) to give you a faster speed for touring or faster acceleration in traffic.

For most people the comfort, economy, style and convenience of a motor scooter is what they are looking for. People all over the world are ‘hooked’ on these wonderful machines which give more personal freedom than your average car would at a fraction of the cost.

Economically, motor scooters use a tiny proportion of the gas that a car would; you can park them in a much smaller space, they are easy to ride and, of course, they don’t cost much to buy in the first place.

The availability of motor scooters in the USA nowadays has lead to a rapidly expanding market, as people begin to realise the utility of this vehicle over and above normal four wheeled transport. Not only are they cheap to buy but insurance, maintenance and gas cost a fraction of their larger counterparts.

With exports to the USA of motor scooters from abroad now increasing the costs are actually going down in real terms, as technology in Far Eastern countries, where labour is cheap, improves, so does the price for the consumer.

In these days of higher and higher gas prices affecting the consumer, the modern motor scooter is bound to be an attractive alternative to other forms of transport.
