A brief guide to the Black Forest
The Black Forest
The Black Forest can be found in the Southwest of Germany, and has many wonderful aspects including some of the most striking spots, an assortment of different indoor and outdoor activities, and a number of cultural places of interest and of course not forgetting the fantastic black forest gateau.
Tourism When traveling through the Black Forest one of the most picturesque trips you must take is to Maulbronn monastery. It has been registered a World Cultural Heritage Site and is well known for being a spectacular site that is a must see. There are also some magnificent mountains including the Feldberg which stands at an impressive 4,998 feet. However this magnificent site is matched by the Titisee and schluchsee lakes where you can find the reason that this region is so famous, the fairy tale castles.
A brief History Germany is a country that has been through much disorder and different rule; it wasn’t until after the Second World War that it became a united country. Some of the conflict endured was the 16th Century witch hunts and then the black plague; it has also been ruled by the Swedish, Spanish and French.
Traveling One of the easiest modes of transport to get to the Black Forest is probably the train as they arrive in Freiburg and Baden-Baden from most of the important German Centres. If you prefer to fly there are many airports that are near or surrounding the Black Forest with the Euro Airport at the Swiss border and Stuttgart airport very close by and flights go there from most other European destinations. If you decide to drive which is not a bad idea as the roads are in very good condition, you can arrive by the Rhine Valley or the A5, which follows the length of the western side of the Black Forest. You can rent a car easily from any company, the most popular is the car hire specialist Car Rentals.co.uk
Places to stay As the Black Forest is such a desirable area, booking in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment. You will easily find something to suit your needs. Whether you wish to go camping, stay in a small bed and breakfast or stay in one of the luxurious hotels that are on offer. The prices vary but are very reasonable.
Dining The Black Forest offers some of the most popular German wines there are which can be enjoyed with the time-honored dishes. The prices do vary but there will always be something to suit your budget.
