San Diego beaches Although San Diego is located on the oceanfront, the air is really dry here and it only rains in winter. You can live for the whole summer in San Diego, but it still will not rain even though there are often clouds seen all over the continent. At the same time, go further from the ocean for about 5 miles, and you will find yourself in the place where there is no rain in spring, summer and autumn. Farther, deep in the heart of the continent, you can feel the breath of the desert. The place where the land ends and the sea starts can be seen from far away, it is easy to recognize it by the even stripe of clouds that hangs above the coast. In spring and autumn, thick clouds crawl into the valleys and wrap up everything with fog. However, the close desert dries moisture no matter how much rain it is. People say that San Diego ocean is a lot warmer than that in Los Angeles. You can bathe all the summer long here. The ocean attracts surfers that spend their time in water all year round. You can also buy not very expensive body-board and plunge into the waves - surfing is rather an easy, exciting and pleasant occupation. It also does not require any special skills or additional expenses. At some days, the waves can be as high as the human height and can reach the beach. San Diego sandy beaches go almost uninterruptedly from the Mexican border further to the north. One of the main problems for those who go to the beach is parking of course. You can spend the whole day trying to find a place to put your car at. Even the paid parkings are filled with long queues of people waiting for their turn. The ability of California citizens to bathe even in the icy-cold water is just amazing. More often, you can see children of all ages, from infants to schoolchildren, sitting in water while their parents either lay in chaise longues and have rest or bathe as well. All in all, summer in San Diego is a real heaven thanks to warm ocean and air. The myth about the Pacific ocean being colder than the Atlantic seems to be really widespread. However, if you compare San Diego beaches with the Atlantic coast in Boston and New York, you will understand that its not true. In summer, San Diego coast is warmer than in Boston and not colder than in New York while it is really absurd to compare their winter temperatures. In San Diego, you can walk in ocean water and enjoy January coolness while along the Washington east coast and to the north it usually snows and you can only observe the ocean from far away. The beaches on the west of Coronado peninsula are really good. Another excellent beach is the one in the Torey Pines State Reserve district that is to the north of Del Mar town. Those who are fond of nudism can visit the beach two miles to the south of Torey Pines. All in all, there are about 70 beaches in San Diego. The best time to rest on a beach is the middle of June when water is very warm. All beaches are equipped with chaise longues and showers with fresh water as well as rescue team and assistants on duty.
