Exploring Abaco Islands - Bahamas Vacation Guide
A group of small islands in the Bahamas though not as popular as the famous islands, captivates tourists with its wonderful national parks and natural reserves make it just as much as vacation paradise as the more famous islands. The Abaco Islands might be another ideal vacation paradise for you. The exploration of Abaco Islands start from the Abaco National Park. It spans 20,500 acres of land and the luxuriant vegetation and species of birds will certainly draw many bird lovers to this park. The 5000 acres of land which are covered by pine forests in Abaco National Park is home to many different species of birds including the Bahama Parrot. The park owes its existence to this bird, since it was founded in 1994 primarily to serve as a protective environment for this endangered species. The park, 5,000 of which are covered by the pine forests where the above mentioned bird likes to live. Of course, you'll find many other species of birds in this land you could imagine. Among them are the West Indies Woodpecker, different species of Flycatchers, at least five different species of Warblers, and also many different species of doves. In Abaco Islands, the world does not belong to humans alone, but to other beings (birds) as well.
An addition pleasure to bird lovers is to make a trip to Marsh Harbor. You'll find flocks of loud and colourful tropical birds here. If you are a history buff as well as birdwatcher, you are in for a double pleasure at the Loyalist Memorial Sculpture Garden. Birds are also frequent guests here.
The Pelican Cays National Park is an underwater paradise with many different species of marine life. The park is about 2,000 acres comprising many underground caves, coral reefs, miniature islands and small bays, thus making it a paradise park for tourists. Divers will certainly enjoy the beauty of this park all day including daytime and nighttime. Though the parks we've mentioned cover a rather large total area, there is another smaller natural reserve for divers. Fowl Cay in Hope Town is the one. The main activities are diving and snorkelling. If you like to sail, boating tours are also available for charter, just need to check the price with the locals. It is obvious that the Bahamian government takes nature preservation quite seriously. There seems an gradual increase in protecting the environment and also making sure that the activities offered to the tourists are not harmful to the environment. The efforts have prevented the extinction of some endangered species and also enhance the eco-friendliness of the tourist industry here.
As a result of careful planning and organization from the government, the island has become a true paradise for the visitor.
