Life in Valencia style
Last year, there was Terra Mitica, A Mystical Land, opened on the edge of the Benidorm, Valencia province - the largest park of this kind in Europe. Since then, the Spanish tourist centre has changed its location from the Catalan Port Aventura to Valencia. It is not surprising though, as the park is really magnificent, boasting its Egypt pyramids, the Labyrinth of the Minotaur as well as unexampled attractions with uninhabited islands, waterfalls and rapids. All in all, the cultures of all the Mediterranean countries are observed here. However, Valencia is not only attractive for its Mystical land. For instance, the beaches of Valencia are among the cleanest in Europe: they hold UNESCO six blue flags, which is the highest rate. As for the provinces, they also have a lot to be proud of: the Torreblanca and Cabanesa sandy beaches alternate their pebbles and rocks, one mountain range changes the other while there are sea, island and mountain preserves between them. One of the most interesting preserves here is Las Palmas where you can still see the whole cork oak groves full of red spruces and the mountains with their Miravet and Montornes castles. Moreover, Valencia has about 5.000 cages with rock carvings in some of them. Valencia people use their heritage economically and delicately and offer tourists visits to the most safe and interesting places. The first Valencia historical monuments that exist till nowadays were built during the Roman times. These are aqueducts, thermos and the Sagunt arena. The Moores that conquered all the Pyrenees territory also left the traces of their sojourn here. It is the Vinalopo castle in Alicante and the Almirante baths that remind of their empire. However, the Moorish style is not so typical for Valencia streets as Moorish people did not manage to strike their roots here; one of the most important national heroes in Valencia is the Spanish commander Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, the legendary Sid that was glorified by Pierre Corneille. It was he who relieved Valencia from the Arabs in 1096. And though they totally left Valencia only in the middle XVIII century, this city is absolutely different from Barcelona, Seville or Madrid. Valencia is the miniature example of elevated style, which harmoniously combines minimum perceptible Arabic style as well as medieval Roman basilicas and the Spanish modern style. Costa Blanca is the place that competes with Benidorm and Alicante in its popularity. It is rapidly becoming one of the most luxurious Valencia resorts. However, if you seek calmness and reasonable prices, turn to a small Cullera place that is surrounded with mountains and located not far from Bahia de los Naranjos (Orange Grove Bay). Or choose the neighboring Gandia, the university town, the microscopical center for local civilization, culture and rest where mostly Germans an Englishmen spend their holidays. In comparison with the rest of Spain, Valencia resorts are cheap ones. It is not very hot here as well and the sea wind is not that cold, so you can get out to your balcony, lie in the sun, eat peaches and you will not be at risk of getting sunstroke. To get the most of your trip, taste paella, which is local people so proud of. It is prepared not less than half an hour and is also cooked all over Spain. However, Valencia is the homeland for Paella, and the original is always better than the copy.
