Even drug policies are constantly under revision and review. For instance, while marijuana is technically illegal in Vancouver, police generally do not arrest people who “carry” in small amounts. There have been some city proposals for supervised drug injection sites – which would amount to a legalization of prohibited drugs, albeit in a heavily regulated way.
Vancouver is relatively free from racial tensions, and is known for its inter-racial harmony in spite of its large ethnic communities. The city also has a large gay and lesbian community.
Every year, Vancouver hosts the International Folk Music Festival. This festival showcases the best folk music talent in the world and is considered a top tourist attraction. Divided into many different parts, the coastline is a popular destination for boating afficionados and is a potential location for water sports. There are many places to stay along the shoreline and the beaches.
Vancouver is also a haven for skiing enthusiasts, who can enjoy three ski hills: Mount Seymour, Grouse Mountain, and Cypress Bowl. All of these ski hills are within thirty minutes of the city itself.
