An Introduction to Podcasting
The hippest new way to broadcast information on the internet, podcasting, crept into internet vocabulary in 2004. Video podcasting is a wonderful new way to keep in touch with family and friends, and also provides an innovative way to show the world your expertise. Many people call themselves podcasting experts and it is no wonder since podcasting is still fairly new and everyone is trying to jump on the podcasting bandwagon to make tons of cash.
Podcasting is an audio file that you make on your PC and afterwards upload it over the Internet for other people to hear them. With podcasting, the author shares his or her thoughts in audio form (MP3) and subscribers download and listen to the audio either on their computers, burn the files to CD, or transfer the files to one of the increasingly popular portable MP3 players.
Podcasting is a conjuncture of the words iPod , the most popular audio digital player created by Apple Computers, and broadcast, which means to put on air; hence, the association of podcasting to iPod or Apple computers. Get a MP3 player or simply listen from your computer and explore the myriad of podcasting shows out there. As usual, though, standing behind the early adopters gushing praise for a new technology, someone will have to figure out how to turn podcasting from a promising technology into a trusted marketing tool.
Not everyone who calls themselves a podcasting expert really is and you need to understand the ways to separate the real podcasting experts from those trying to make a fast buck. In addition, the expectation is that the medical podcasting services can used to deliver updates to on new medicines or applications from drug companies who would appreciate the opportunity to present their information in a useful and appealing format. Similar to the concept of opt-in email, podcasting takes full advantage of technology in reaching a pre-qualified, self-selected audience that craves the information and expertise a podcaster provides.
Also, the entire concept of commercializing Podcasting has become a heated debate, splitting the Podverse in two ever since advertisers began trickling in last year. One of the interesting things about podcasting, is that it forces people to become participatory. Initially you might think the only people podcasting are geeks and computer nerds, but that's not the case.
