Headsets, the basics
Headsets are a pair of transducers which receive electric signals and convert them to sound. It is used to hear sound more clearly with out any distraction close to your ears from a laptop, computer or music system. Beyer dynamic headphone was officially invented in the late 1930’s which was the first company to market headphones to the public.
The usage of headphones was less during that time but after the invention of walkman, its usage has become wide. Headphones are classified based on the different kinds of parts in it like Circumural, supra, aural, earphones and canal phones.
Circumural headphones have pads for covering the ears fully. Supra aural headphones have pads that go over the ears. Earphones are smaller in size, and are placed directly in the ear canal without covering the ear fully. Canal phones sit in the ear canal.
Depending upon the kind and usage pattern headphones can be worn in many styles. The most popular style of wearing a headphone is over your head. Headphones which have a band, or multiple bands, can be worn over your head or behind your head. This style is also called Street Style, and has been made quite popular by Sony.
The next type of headphones is the one which is pinned to the outer ear with the help of a clip. There are many benefits of headsets and headphones. To start with its usage in the office is very good. It saves space, especially the wireless models. In some places people use hand phones for a long time, there head set will be of great use. They allow privacy in a room full of people with computers mixing tracks. It is advisable to use headphones in place where many people work together.
Headphones which reduce noise is called Noise cancellation headphones. It reduces all the sounds that are unwanted. Generally, this is to use electric circuitry, which generates noise reduction signals. These headphones cancel out any unwanted sounds using the phenomena of destructive interference.
This type of headphones is very popular in airlines where passengers can sleep easily without any issues. The most popular head phone in this category is the Bose headphones. However, these headphones require battery backup, and are more effective when the sound is continuous, like a hum. Traditional headphones are not so bulky as these headphones are.
The electronics that reduce the additional noise are in fact behind the microphone; they take the noise from there, and then invert it before adding to the normal real audio signal. Active Noise cancellation is another method of noise cancellation where waveforms are produced to cancel the noises.
