World Cup 2006
The 18th World Championship has just begun. All great countries are here to participate. Will the great Brazilian selection shine again as a world champion!? Will there be a new star rising on the horizon, like Bulgaria in 1994 in the USA (4th place), or Croatia in 1998 in France (3rd place) or Korea in 2002 (4th place) and Turkey (3rd place).
It is clear that we are about to witness an incredible World Championship, which will definitely stay in history. Will other teams be able to challenge Brazil leaded by Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Adriano. European teams must show great efforts in order to succeed on their own ground. England and Italy hardly remember the taste of “the greatest victory” – being a champion. Let us not forget the host nation, burdened by expectations for success, for which every loss is a potential national catastrophe. Although Germany failed to gather a strong team, its chances to win the cup are not to be underestimated. Latest example is the last World Championship when no one expected as much of Germany as to reach the final, although losing to Brazil with 0-2. France’s participation is to be remembered because this will be the last game for Zinedine Zidane, maybe the greatest player of his time.
We must not forget, also, the small-scale teams - Ghana, Costa Rica, and Togo. Having in mind that one of the most incredible matches on the last World Championship was Brazil – Costa Rica (5-3), every match on this Championship is worth watching. 33 billion people will be watching all of the 64 matches – well enough to realize the intensity that we are about to witness.
So call sick and enjoy the game!
