NLL Outdoor’s League Becomes a Possibility

The viability of an NLL outdoor league becomes a possibility now that the NLL commissioner Jim Jennings gathered 6-member committee and created a board to explore the idea of an outdoors league.
A belief that the NLL has the potential to duplicate its indoor success on the outdoor stage gained strength after the board voted collectively in favor of an outdoors idea.
Steve Govett member of the NLL’s board of directors said “We feel that NLL indoor is starting to grow pretty rapidly. “The NLL indoor has sold more tickets to pro lacrosse than any other outlet, Are we experts? No, we’re not. But we have a pretty good handle on things, and I think we can get that to translate to outdoor success.”
One of the factors that increased the probability of an outdoors idea was that Reebok, the league’s official outfitter, was among a number of sponsors including Nike, Harrow, deBeer and Fury Hockey that express the desire to branch out into the outdoor game, were they said is where they think they can sell merchandise.
A press conference to announce the new franchises and locations is expected in the next two months, as well as an announcement about a new indoor franchise in Boston for 2008, which will play home games at the TD Banknorth Garden.
