Klasnic Needs a New Kidney
Ivan Klasnic, Werder Bremen’s striker won’t be able to play soccer for a while since he needs to go into surgery and receive a kidney transplant. The Croatian striker has requested his situation to become public due to all the mystery that has been created around him after he had an appendix operation on November 3rd, 2005 and it was then, when the doctors detected that his kidneys were working abnormally.
Many clinical methods were applied in order to prevent a bigger kidney disorder but they weren’t effective enough to treat the soccer player. Therefore a kidney transplant will now be mandatory.
But not everything is bad news. Klasnic has already found a compatible donor: a 26-year old that will undergo surgery in the next few days. Due to this, the striker will be in the hospital for about twelve days. The doctors think he will be ready to play with his team again eight weeks later.
Klasnic's lawyer, Klaus-Peter Horndasch stated that it is due to the player’s kidney insufficiency that he is expected to have surgery in a hospital in Zagreb, Croatia very soon.
The 26-year-old Croatian professional soccer player has been with the Bremen squad since 2001 and has scored 41 goals in 123 Bundesliga games.
Ivan Klasnic was born in Hamburg, Germany, into a family of Bosnian Croats on January 29, 1980. He started his professional career playing for local side St. Pauli and really impressed as a striker in the three and half seasons he played for the club in the Second Bundesliga since becoming a professional in January 1998.
This German-born Croatian football player currently plays for Bundesliga side Werder Bremen. He is also known as one of Croatia's brightest young talents and also for being fast and successful when scoring from unpromising situations.
