When Was The Last Time The Saints Were Favored By -10?
December 15, 2006 (New Orleans, LA) - Who said that things can not turn around quickly? One year you're trying to save a city and the next year, you're making plans to throw a Super Bowl party.
The New Orleans Saints are the talk of the Football world with a first year Heisman winning running back that was turned away be a team in favor of a defensive end. They have an all star quarterback who was allowed to walk away from his previous team and was overlooked by several teams in need of a quarterback. What about their leading receiver that was drafted out of Hofstra in the 7th round and the third last player taken in the draft?
The Saints are coming off an overwhelming victory over America's team the Dallas Cowboys and are now listed as -10 picks over the Redskins at America's favorite online Sports book www.sportsbook.com. Reggie Bush, Drew Brees and Marques Colston are three huge reasons for the Saints 9-4 record and a victory this Sunday or an Atlanta loss will give New Orleans, the NFC South Championship. This conference features Atlanta, Carolina and Tampa Bay, so needless to say these events are shocking.
The Football team from Bourbon Street has been very kind to Football bettors this year, as they own a 9-4 spread record, 4-2 at home against the number and are playing a Redskins team that is just 1-5 on the road against the spread. Washington shelled out millions of dollars in the off season to highly regarded assistant coaches Al Saunders and Greg Williams and is receiving very little in return. The Saints on the other hand have momentum, a crazy home crowd and are facing a disillusioned team, which features a rookie quarterback in just his second road start.
That being said, however, I just cannot see how one can bring themselves to spot a team 10 points before the kickoff, in a game that could be referred to as a sandwich game. They beat the Cowboys on the road in front of a National television audience, come home to a party and then head to the Big Apple and a date with the Giants next week. If you recall last season New Orleans was forced to play their first home game on the road at the Meadowlands due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They were not pleased with the shabby treatment they received and voiced their opinion.
In a year of barking dogs I would grab the 10 points and start running or take a look at the over/under total of 46.5 that opened at 42!
