Sportsbook.com Has MID-American Conference Championship!
November 28, 2006 (Detroit, Michigan)- Here we go with the College Football post-season as the Ohio Bobcats and the Central Michigan Chippewas will battle Thursday night at Ford Field for the MAC Championship.
Not too long ago, Football fans would have turned their noses us at this perceived no-name conference, but not any more. With players like Chad Pennington, Jason Taylor, Byron Leftwich, Ben Roethlisberger and Charlie Frye all playing in the NFL and graduates of this division, ESPN will be front and center this week.
As has become the norm for most Americans who wager on sports, Sportsbook will be their destination when they decide whether they will lay the - 2 ½ on the favored Central Michigan team, or grab the underdog Frank Solich's Bobcats. Yes, this is the same coach that spent many seasons with the powerful Nebraska Cornhuskers and his squad was 9-3 this year and 7-3-1 against the spread.
Expect to hear the name Kalvin MacRae early and often in this contest as he gained over 1200 yards on the ground and 250 yards receiving for the Bobcats. Ohio has a gritty defense and very good special teams and will be very patient, with screen passes and the odd play action call.
The Chippewas can light it up on offense and the next MAC Quarterback to graduate to the NFL may be freshman sensation Dan LeFevour. He had over 2500 yards passing and his 22-9 touchdowns to turnover ratio are impressive. CM has a plethora of good receivers, with Bryan Anderson, another freshman, leading the way with 61 catches.
All the early action as far as the wagering has as expected been on the Chippewas as they have some gaudy offensive numbers and bettors are concerned with the Bobcats one-dimensional offense. There are reports that Coach Brian Kelly will be leaving the Mount Pleasant, Michigan School for a more attractive salary and this could cause the team to lose focus.
Certainly the big game experience that Solich experienced at Nebraska, gives the Bobcats the edge and I like the dog here. The over/under is 43 and if you like the underdog, there is a good chance this game will be under!
