Devastating Loss For Cowboys Moneyline Bettors!
November 6, 2006 (Dallas, Texas) - The Dallas Cowboys slipped into DC on Sunday. With Tony looking like the second coming of Roger Staubach, they had the Redskins on the brink of defeat several times. Unfortunately, their huge off-season free agent signings Terrell Owens and Mike Vanderjagt let them down big time. The Cowboys were the favorite at sportsbook.com, but instead of laying the -3 ½ you could have bet them on the money line.
The advantage here is that all the Cowboys need to do in win the game and you must lay more dollars then you get back, but do not give any points, which is important when they are lining up to kick a field goal and win by -3!
Judging by some of the comments post-game, handicappers may want to keep an eye on Dallas the rest of the way. Most players were suggesting that if they don't make the playoffs, then this game will have been the turning point. Suddenly a team that should be 5-3 is sitting at 4-4.
They can talk about the 11 penalties for 153 yards and the dropped touchdown pass by Owens, but it comes down to the fragile state of the kicking position. Eleven times in his career Vanderjagt has made last play field goals to win games and now two times in the past 11 months he has failed. This is a team that failed miserably at special teams last year and everyone knows how Parcells relies on this facet to the game.
The Cowboys' record is one-game worse than at the midway point last season - when they failed to make the playoffs - so they cannot afford to let many more games (if any) go. They are tied for second in the NFC East, two games behind the New York Giants, as they prepare for next Sunday's game at Arizona. That's followed by home games against Indianapolis and Tampa Bay (on Thanksgiving). Time is running out.
"When you've got that much going for you and you screw it up like that, it's how you end up 4-4", is what owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Dallas is favored at Arizona by -6 ½ and the over/under total has been established at 43 points. We all know that Arizona can be tough at home as we saw them take the Bears to the wire, so consider this a great wagering opportunity!
