Carolina At Buffalo NHL October 20TH!
The Carolina Hurricanes are beginning to get on a roll in this young NHL season, but they hear to Buffalo and a meeting with the hottest team in the NHL.
Fresh off a 9-1 annihilation of the Philadelphia Flyers, Lindy Ruff's crew is itching for another shot at the defending Stanley Cup champions. Besides being two wins shy of matching their best start set in 1975, the Sabres have won 11 straight regular-season games, tying the franchise record established 31 years ago.
Just as significant, all six wins this season have come against teams that made the playoffs last year, including four division champions -- Carolina, Detroit, Ottawa and Philadelphia -- and the defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes.
Sabres goalie Ryan Miller is playing like an all star with a 5-0 mark and an ERA of 2.48 and while he has a capable backup in Martin Biron, look for Ruff to stick with the hot hand. Chris Drury, Max Afinogenov, and Daniel Briere have scored 40% of the Buffalo goals.
These teams usually play low scoring affairs but that could change Friday as both teams have been scoring lately, as the home side has 19 goals in the past 3 games, while Carolina has scored 14.
Unlike their rivals, the Hurricanes are a very well balanced team with just three players Williams, Stall, and Walker with at least 3 goals. Goaltender Cam Ward is 3-2-1 this year with a 2.63 ERA and he is establishing himself as one of the best in the league.
The Sabres are hitting at a 75% clip as home favorite with a 24 cover in their last 32 games, while Carolina is 3-0 on this current streak as a dog!
