Cowboys Are Ready To Lasso The UTES!
While most online Sports bettors are zoned into the Michigan-Penn State tilt or the Florida - Auburn SEC matchup, I suggest Sportsbook.com customers go west. Out on the plains of Wyoming Saturday afternoon the Utah Utes will come calling on the Wyoming Cowboys.
Utah comes off a massive win over the highly regarded TCU Horn Frogs and is 2-0 in Conference play. They are favored in this game by -4 points and if past history in any indicator of how this Saturday will play out, Utah is a lock.
Utah has won six straight in the series by a combined score of 227-76.
The Cowboys were shut out in two of those games, and Utah has scored 34 or more points in five of the six, including more than 40 in each of the last three.
But the University of Wyoming coach Joe Glenn isn't concerned about the past. He's concerned with the present, and the present-day Cowboys are coming off a 14-10 victory at New Mexico last week, where they rallied from a 10-0 halftime deficit.
That victory snapped a four-game losing streak, a five-game skid in road games and a seven-game slide in conference play. UH also ended a six-game losing stretch to New Mexico and now will try and do the same with Utah. UW lost at Utah 43-13 last season and was outscored 40-7 after the first quarter.
Protecting the Football is the biggest key for UW. It ranks 117th out of 119 Division I-A teams in turnover margin at minus 9. UW enters the game with the nation's best pass defense (106.2 yards per game), the third-best pass efficiency defense (88.2) and fourth-best overall defense (235.5 ypg).
UW's five starting offensive linemen have combined to make 124 starts in their careers. That is the third-longest mark in the nation behind Stanford (142) and Fresno State (127).
UW and Utah have played two common opponents - Utah State and Boise State. Both squads easily beat Utah State. UW won 38-7, and Utah blanked the Aggies 48-0.
UW lost 17-10 at home to Boise State on Sept. 16. Two weeks later, Boise State was No. 22 in the nation and won at Utah 36-3.
The over/under is hovering at 41 and the weather should be a balmy day in the mid-60's!
