The Miami Heat got a disappointing surprise during the NBA Opening game on Tuesday evening when they played the Chicago Bulls and the final score was 108-66.

Kirk Hinrich scored 26 points after signing a five year contract extension and Chris Duhon scored 20 more points to mess up Miami Heat’s celebration humor after their players received their championship rings hours before on the home court.

Last year was a good season for the Miami Heat since they accomplished the NBA Championship but if Tuesday’s game was an omen for the rest of the year, it would be better if they retired and went back home.

This was by far the worst loss in NBA history for a defending champion on opening night. The preceding failure was the Los Angeles Lakers' 132-117 defeat to Golden State on Oct. 29, 1982. The Lakers went on that season to win 58 games.

Chicago Bulls controlled most part of the game after they took a 37-14 burst in the second quarter. Chicago made 79 percent of the shots compared to Miami that made only 29 percent of them. The lead was 59-30 at halftime and just kept growing. The Miami Heat turned the ball over 23 times, leading to 32 Chicago points and were out-rebounded 49-29.

Luol Deng scored 12 points and Thabo Sefolosha who is the league's first player from Switzerland, added 11 on a 4-of-4 shooting for Chicago Bulls.

This wasn't the all-time worst loss for a reigning champion, but it came very close: Orlando hammered Chicago 115-68 on April 2, 1999, and that 47-point margin is the biggest defeat for a reigning titleholder, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
