Wonder Fuel – Propane
Propane gas is considered by a growing number of people as the world's most convenient, cheap and versatile fuel. It is the preferred fuel of choice for industrial, residential, recreational, and commercial uses nationwide. Propane prices compare very favorably with every other type of fuel. The many advantages associated with propane use have no doubt contributed to this fuel’s huge popularity. It is clean, efficient, reliable and less expensive than electricity. As if that is not enough, it is also portable, and the energy that it provides can be utilized virtually anywhere where natural gas mains are unavailable. Within the continental USA, propane gas customers are served by a large industry that is very well established. Each year approximately 18 billion gallons of propane gas are produced and sold to over 60 million customers nationwide.
The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) is the trade organization representing every sector of the propane gas industry. This includes propane producers, appliance manufacturers, distributors and propane gas suppliers. What Is Propane? Propane is liquefied petroleum gas, and is categorised as a fossil fuel. It is called a fossil fuel because it is made up of the remains of plants and animals that inhibited the Earth millions of years ago. Propane, since it can be either a liquid or a gas, is a unique energy source. Pressurizing propane changes its state from a liquid to a gas. This makes it easy to store propane safely and transport it efficiently. Propane is delivered to the appliance from its storage container in the form of a clean-burning gas. It can then be used in the fuel systems of gas appliances and equipment in the same way as natural gas. Propane gas is colourless and odourless. A hydrocarbon with properties similar to natural gas, propane is separated from natural gas at gas processing plants and refined from crude oil at refineries. It is stored and transported in a liquid state and vaporizes to a clean-burning gas when released from its storage container. About 92% of the nation's needs for propane come from North American suppliers. For those homeowners who are not on the natural gas main, who prefer to use gas, especially for cooking, (and most people do), propane offers you a substantially less expensive option to electricity. The propane industry employs more than 95,000 Americans who produce, deliver and market this domestic product. It has been estimated that more than 90% of the propane used in the USA is produced here. As well as being a highly cost effective fuel, propane is also versatile. You can cook your meals, heat your home, take a nice hot shower or even snuggle up in front of a romantic propane fireplace.
