THE MODERN SPORTS BREWPUB
“Pub grub” is what we call it in England. Good old hearty fare which you would expect to eat in a Public House where your mates have come to watch the ‘footie’ with you over a few pints.
In England you can sometimes even find pubs which make their own beer. What better on a Saturday than to sit down and watch the game on a big TV set that everyone can see, after a satiating lunch and with a pint or so in front of you? The Brits have been doing it for decades.
The idea has at last been picked up by franchisors in America, where they found that the combination of sports, food and beer were pretty enticing for your average male sports fan, whether you happen to be single or not. The provision of facilities for the family whilst you watch that ‘all important’ baseball, basketball, hockey or football game certainly enhances your enjoyment of the sport with your friends or fellow supporters, and means you can really enjoy the match.
Nowadays, of course, you can not only watch the TV at these establishments, but have available to you a cornucopia of cable and satellite channels, all showing sport 24/7. For the franchisee this is wonderful.
Presuming, as a franchisee, your seriously expensive electronic gadgets are up to scratch, you can bring in the customers to watch which ever sport they wish to, feed them with food they want, brew beer they want to drink and everyone is happy.
There are many chains of franchisors today opening new sports brewpubs, as well as converting previously licensed and non-licensed premises into further new ones. Some of them have even expanded into foreign countries.
There are not many capital cities without an Irish Bar or three, for instance, but if they happen to have one whose name you recognise you know you will get the same hospitality as in one of the same name in your own city.
That’s the thing about franchises for sports orientated pubs. Wherever you go in the world everyone loves sport. Combined with all the other facilities such as beer and good food it is a recipe for success.
It doesn’t really matter where you travel to, a game of football is addictive if its on the ‘box’ in front of you, and even if you’ve just popped in for a quick drink you may find yourself stopping for the game, having something to eat, another drink, some pudding, watch another game, chat to a couple of people who suddenly become very good friends because you support the same team and…..well, the evening’s gone.
Your one drink became several. You’ve eaten very well indeed and it has actually cost you very little to have a really excellent time. You may well go back again. And again.
As the franchisee you can thoroughly congratulate yourself on a job well done. Your happy customer has not had one quick drink but five slow ones over the course of a few hours. He has eaten quite a large amount of your food and really enjoyed the sport and the company as well.
You are delighted when he comes in again at the same time the next day because you know that’s ‘good business’ and that you have the balance right in your own franchise.
