The James Bond Job Search-Discover 3 Tips to Make Sure an Employer Suspect Nothing!
If you're looking for a new job to replace your current job but you do not want your current employer to know that you're looking for a new job, you need to be like James Bond and be stealthy about it. Here are a couple tips that you can follow to keep your employer from finding out you are currently looking for another position.
Posting your resume online
I do not personally recommend posting your resume online and make it available to all companies. The smart way to play this is to post your resume on the job search engines and only send them to the companies and jobs you are interested in. If you absolutely feel the need to make it available to all companies do what you need to do is to block certain companies from viewing your resume. On certain jobs websites you can also block your name and your contact information from showing up to just anybody.
Your e-mail address
This seems like almost a no-brainer but obviously you do not want to use your work e-mail on your resume. Most companies nowadays have the ability to view your e-mails and who they are coming from. If you don't have an personal email address set up yet you can get an personal account through Yahoo, MSN, or Google. These services and e-mails are free to set up and you can check them from any Internet connection.
Your wardrobe
One of the biggest dead giveaways is if someone comes in and has to take part of the day off and they are dressed differently than they typically would be. If your office environment allows jeans or khakis and that is what you typically wear on a day-to-day basis, do not come in wearing a suit and a tie because this will be a red flag for your employee. Keep this in the car and have it covered up and if somebody ask, tell them that it is your dry cleaning.
When people are looking for a new job they obviously do not want their employee aware of this. If you follow the tips above it will be a lot easier to hide your job search from your current employer.
