For the owners and employees of Medallion Pools, a leading custom pool manufacturer and installer in Colonial Heights, VA, the warmer months are always more hectic, more stressful and, according to company president John Mazza, Jr., "the time to really chart how much we'll be able to give to charity for the year."
Like a lot of pool companies, the company does most of its work from early spring to early fall. But unlike most other pool companies, or a lot of businesses for that matter, Medallion Pools makes charitable contributions every year "When my father founded the company in 1960, he dedicated himself to making the best product at the best possible value," Mazza said. "He also made it a company goal to give back to the community, and over the years we've been able to accomplish a lot of good for a lot of people."
Indeed, Medallion Pools' charity gifts have included everything from contributions to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to a Friends of Barnabas charity donation that assisted the organization's efforts in providing medical care to those in need in remote areas in Honduras.
Through the Southeastern Regional Medical Center (SRMC) the nursing students' medical mission travels to the area every year to and assists with everything from antibiotic care to medical exams and even surgeries.
Successful treatments in years past average nearly 3,000 patients. "It's something we all get involved in," said Medallion Pools Vice President Vicki Parks. "We like seeing the results and knowing we're really making a difference in people's lives."
As for future plans, Mazza is optimistic. "At some point we might even start our own foundation," he notes. "But there are a lot of great causes out there that still need help, and we're happy to support them as much as we can."
