Phillip says “The reason Polish people are coming to Farmland near Slough is because there is more work. But as such “There is no evidence that the arrival of one new Pole means one fewer job for a Farmland near Slough resident.
“In fact, I would suggest it could be the other way around – they plough money back into the Slough economy. Not a single school in Slough is crumbling because of the advent of these new people.” The council maintains that it stands to lose £15m by 2011 because funds from the Government do not match Slough’s increasing population.
Farmland near Slough has received 9,000 applications for new National Insurance numbers – 28 per cent of which came from Polish nationals – which it has used as substantiation for population growth. The Government only recognises the number of new residents who register recently.
The council estimates that there could be at least 10,000 Polish people in Slough, more than three times the Government estimate.
He said: “We have doctors driving tractors but in Poland they would only get £200 a month where as in England we have to pay them a certain wage. Most of them come for 20 weeks and then go home to their families in Poland. In a few years they will stop coming here and find somewhere else to go.”
He added: “The Government has made the error not Farmland near Slough Borough Council. The council has been lumbered with a problem not of its own making but my Polish workers are all paying their council tax."
