The little blue pill braves it all
It’s not been easy up there. Viagra has ruled the market in the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction for the last seven years. But it has not been without controversies. Viagra has faced many controversies over the years. With new tests and clinical trials, side effects of Viagra only seem to be creating trouble for the Magic Pill.
According to a study in Brazil, it was found that if Viagra is taken in the night, before bedtime, it aggravates a disease called sleep apnea. It is a condition which causes snoring. In sleep apnea, breathing stops or gets very shallow while a person is sleeping. The study said that people using Viagra were twice as likely to experience sleep apnea. Erectile Dysfunction is highly common in people who suffer from sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a common disorder that can be very serious.
Yet another research pointed out that Viagra can reduce a man’s fertility. According to the research, Viagra makes the male sperm release an enzyme which allows it to break through the egg membrane too early. By the time it reaches the egg it cannot get in - hence, it becomes useless. Pfizer denies the report and says that there is no such evidence in the last seven years which can indicate that Viagra reduces a man’s fertility.
The other big controversy that Viagra has seen is that it is being used for recreational purposes and not for medical reasons. Expert’s advice that Viagra is not intended as a recreational drug and should not be used for recreational purposes. Only men with serious erectile dysfunction or sexual problems and on prescription for sexual dysfunction should use Viagra.
The big side effect which has even affected the sales of Viagra is NAION. The US FDA has already asked all ED drugs to change their labels and specify that these drugs can cause NAION as there side effects. This medical condition is called non arterictic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). This condition restricts blood flow to the eyes and compresses the optic nerve, which can lead to rapid loss of vision.
Pfizer is not too convinced and refutes the alleged correlation between Viagra use and development of this serious eye disease that Viagra is the cause for the loss of vision as reported by many experts.
Viagra has successfully cleared itself from the allegation that it can increase the risk of heart attack. According to Pfizer, men with erectile dysfunction (ED), who have been prescribed Viagra (sildenafil citrate), do not have an increased risk of heart attack or death from ischemic heart disease. This was proved through many clinical trials in the UK.
Viagra has over the years proved that it is an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction and has been used by millions of men worldwide and many more are still prescribing to buy Viagra.
