Your Friends Want You To Fail
Have you ever told your friends about your success goals? What was their reaction? If you are like most people you soon discover that your friends will give you 101 reasons why you should abandon those goals. Here's why!
A great thinker once said that you can forgive your friends for almost anything except their success.
You see, when your friends become successful it really puts the pressure on you. If they can do it then why aren't I doing it? It shakes your boat. It prompts you to question your own life and to ask if you are doing enough with it.
Most people hate to be shaken out of their complacency. They would rather keep their head in the sand and the easiest way to do this is to mix with other people who also have their head in the sand.
You can talk about non threatening subjects like the football, or television, or your social life. It's all nice and safe and comfortable. But then some fool goes out and ruins it all by becoming successful.
Now your head has been torn out of the sand and you feel inferior. Just imagine what Bill Gate's school friends feel like today.
So why am I talking about this anyway?
It's to remind you that any time you have the desire to move further ahead in life than your current group of friends then you need to realize that it is time to leave those friends and move on to a new group that won't be threatened by your goals.
So what group of friends would that be?
A group who already has as much success as you are seeking!
If your friends are more successful than you then they are happy for you to increase your level of success, as long as you don't pass them.
If you pass them then you will make them as uncomfortable as your first group was when you outgrew them. It is human nature for the majority of people to think like this.
It's known as herd mentality.
People need to mix with a herd that is like they are. Not too far beneath them and not too far above them. The secret for the person in growth is to know and accept when it is time to move on.
Here are a few clues.
Your friends' conversations start to bore you and your conservation is not of interest to them.
You already have more success than the average member of your group.
Your level of enthusiasm for life and its marvelous journey is greater than the average level of enthusiasm in the group.
You find that you have a greater thirst for learning new and interesting things than your group does.
You notice that your group seems to be in a rut doing the same things over and over again. Of course a rut can occur at any level of success because most people feel happy to plateau somewhere, sooner or later.
There is nothing wrong with moving on past your group to newer and greener pastures. Every successful person has to do it sooner or later. Like most aspects of success the sooner you do it the better.
The moment you start to see the signs you should start to make the move.
One question before I go. Have you outgrown YOUR current group?
