How To Have A Better Life
Is it easy to create a better life? I don't know. Maybe even thinking about how difficult or easy it is means one isn't ready to commit to making it happen. Easy is such a vague word anyhow. What I can say from personal experience, is that it is possible to dramatically improve ones life in almost any area.
Yes, big changes are difficult, but there are many easy steps in the process. Changing one's habits may take a long time, but there is always something that can be done right now, isn't there? Start with these - the easier and the now. There is nothing useful about feeling overwhelmed.
If you wanted to quit cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine and complaining, you wouldn't expect to do so all at once, right? You might work on one bad habit, and once that was resolved, start on the next. So why not just make your life better today, however you can. Start small - seeing the results will give you the motivation for the big steps.
Better Life Today
It's easy to just look at things, and easy to think about them too, right? So start looking for specific ways to make your life better, and think about them - particularly about the positive consequences. You won't accomplish anything immediately by doing this, but you are preparing yourself. Just thinking about change sets your mind and your motivation in motion.
The next step is to translate those thoughts into simple actions. For example:
- If you want better brainpower, learn one problem solving technique.
- If you want to lose weight, walk the dog or remove one thing from your diet.
- If tired of your angry remarks, start counting to ten before saying anything.
- Want to get rich? Buy a book to help you.
- Want to get out of debt? Work an extra day each month, and apply the income to your debts.
- Have a bad attitude? List all the good things you have, and review it daily.
None of these actions are necessarily going to change much by themselves. They don't need to. They are just small steps that help. They help directly in their small way, and they help build the momentum that keeps you taking the next step and the next.
If you wanted to build a house, and you thought about the whole process, you might feel too overwhelmed to start. But it's easy to nail one board in place, right? And then one more, and one more... Any action that starts the process towards a better life is better than nothing, and plants the seeds of change.
