Communication Challen
The art of communication only comes naturally to a few people. Effective communication is a lot more than the right choice of words; the right body language along with the correct tone while speaking plays important roles in this. It is therefore imperative to be aware of the implications of using the right tools to communicate, to bring out the best results.
There however are certain challenges that come in the path of effective communication which often lead to serious complications in relationships. The most common of these is the tendency to assume when it comes to the person that you are communicating with. Consider having to give directions to your home to an old friend who is new to town; being familiar with your surroundings and knowing the neighborhoods as well as you know your personal space, you tend to assume that your friend will also find it your house just as equally as you do. If they aren’t familiar with the area, they are going to need a very detailed and precise explanation of the route complete with landmarks to find their way to your home.
The other common problem when it comes to communicating is the tendency to refrain from opening up in a relationship. The reason behind this is very noble usually – the sole aim behind turning a blind eye to something that might be unpleasant is usually the desire to avoid being the cause for a disagreement. One tends to quietly ignore a possible source of irritation and not speak up just to keep the harmony of the relationship. This can apply to a spouse or a colleague at work, or even a parent child relationship.
The ability (or lack of it) to communicate clearly also applies to situations where criticism needs to be taken constructively. The absence of tact can prevent one from taking these pointers positively and prove to be a huge block to effective communication. It certainly does not pay to get into a defensive mood the moment some one points out something that can be improved about the way one presents oneself; on the contrary, these should be looked at as chances to better the way one comes across.
Not listening to what the other person is trying to convey to you can be another serious challenge when it comes to effective communication. Soaking up what the speaker is trying to put across and responding intelligibly can go a long way in ensuring that you build strong relationships with people. This can be the first step to getting closer to the one you’d really like to establish strong bonds with.
