Building your Affiliate Product Landing Page for Google Adwords
Early last year Google changed their rules yet again to try and improve the search relevance and overall quality of their sponsored ads being shown in the Google Search. Before these changes, more than one advertiser could advertise the same URL, but now only one advertiser can display ads for each url. What is the reason for this?
Well, it does make sense if you think about it. Lets assume there is a hot product in the MP3 Download industry, and there are 5 advertisers displaying the same url in the top 5 ad positions.
For the searcher it doesn’t make Google look very good. 5 ads all advertising the same url. Definitely not what Google had intended. So, in came the new 1 url rule. If you are a new advertiser and want to display a url that a current advertiser is already showing then you’re pretty much out of luck.
This brings me to the topic of landing pages. Why do we need them? It’s simple, to allow us to advertise the same products as other internet marketers who are using Adwords. Landing pages are usually single html pages with information about a product, or a number of products (review style).
You can buy a domain for 2.99 a year (from Yahoo), and be assured that your page will be displayed in the search results. You don’t have to worry about other people advertising the same link as you.
There are a lot of benefits to having a landing page, but the purpose of this article is to explain how to set up a landing page. There are a number of steps that need to be taken.
1. Buy a domain. You can buy domains almost anywhere on the net. Yahoo offers cheap domains, 1and1.com, homepageuniverse.com, godaddy.com to name a few. 2. Have a hosting company. You can get cheap hosting for 2.95 / month from Host Excellence (www.hostexcellence.com) and you’ll get 1 free domain to start. 3. HTML Editor. You’ll need a simple html editor. MS FrontPage, Dreamweaver, or even notepad will do if you know html. 4. FTP client to upload your webpage – you can download a free FTP Client from (http://www.coreftp.com/).
The most difficult part of setting up a landing page and where you will spend 95% of your time is actually setting up and building the actual web page. Go read up books on how to make a website, one good example is "Web Design Mastery". You can look at the review of this ebook on this webpage: http://www.makemoneyonlinetips.com/make-website.html
Oh on a quick note. You don’t need a new URL for every product you want to promote, you just need a new page. When setting up your ads in Adwords, you will use your domain in the display url: “niche-product-reviews.com”, but in the destination url you can point it to any page you want like so.
To sum things up, you’ll buy a domain and hosting package, build an html landing page, and upload the page to your web host. Some web hosts even have tools and web templates for you to use to help make your page design process easier.
It’s up to you on how you want to make your landing page look, and what style you want to follow, but statistically, the review style landing pages work best and give you the best conversions.
