Scrapbooking is simply a use of the creative ideas that had long been existing in your thought. It is the practical application of your creative thinking to produce fanciful products that you may use in photo preservation. All you need to have is a creative concept then work on to create your own masterpieces. As long as you have a general idea of the outcome, you are sure to have meaningful pages to showcase art.
What’s great with scrapbooking is that there is no strict rule in making scrapbooks and there are no strict technicalities to follow. With scrapbooking, anything goes as long as you are pleased with your creation and you achieve your initial goals.
To help you create more lovely scrapbooks, there are techniques which you may use to help add interest not only on your photos but on the scrapbook itself. We listed down some of them here for you.
Some of the oldest ways of designing scrapbooks is by means of stickers, decorative scissors and punch outs.
With the numerous designs and varieties of stickers available in the market today, the scrapbooker may be overwhelmed both in deciding what to stick into the pages of the scrapbook and the concept she can use. One good rule of thumb with stickers is to make them parallel. Have a uniform concept so as not to bring the effects of clutters.
The manner of adhering sticker art also tricky. Often we find ourselves sticking them everywhere, other than the actual location we initially planned. The trick here is to lay the design first before adhering them onto the pages. You may use either wax paper or plastic for more accurate results since they both are transparent and so you can work on them easily. You can also plan better with them since you can move them around the top of the pages before making any commitments.
Decorative scissors are more commonly used for adding accents to the edges of the papers, photos and others. When making double or triple mats, it is best to start with cutting the smallest mat first and proceed to the larger mats. This will help you create more even edges.
Often, sticking small punches into the paper is a hard deal. So try this technique. You can initially adhere a small photo tape on the paper, be sure not to leave the backing open. Then punch the page. Afterwhich, you can remove the backing and stick the shapes to the pages. If in case the tape makes punching harder, you can use a block of wood for support or a power punch.
Cropping effects are great if you want to add personality into your photo designs. However, most scrapbookers fall victim to over-decorating their photos. The trick here is simplicity so as not to spoil everything.
Tearing paper for texture is one of the easiest techniques involved in the art. There are no tools used in this, only creative judgement in tearing the edges. For rough white edges, you can tear the paper towards you. For rough edges without the white, pull away from you. You may also help the process by using your thumb. But for more planned designs, you can use water to moisten the edges. For added effect, you may roll the edges or decorate them with colored chalks. For more exotic or for old-style effect, you can burn the edges of the papers.
These may seem to be simple guidelines, but either a mistake in doing them or perfection in performing them would be big deals on your end products.
