Four Ways to Make Your House Into a Home Without Breaking the Bank
Wouldn't you like to have a cozy and beautiful home to come home to at the end of a long day at work? You may think that you have to spend a great deal of money to make your home beautiful and inviting, but you can make your home into a place of relaxation and comfort without emptying your wallet.
1. Look for quality over cheap.
Cheap products may make you think that you are getting the best deal, but you may not really be saving any money. Why? You may spend more money in the long run by choosing cheap, inferior products over slightly more expensive, quality items.
2. Decorate smart.
Warm colored paints can help liven up a dark room. If you have a sunny room that tends to get hot, then you will want to use cooler colors, like green or blue. Paint should always mesh with other items like furniture or curtains to give you the maximum bang for your buck.
If you have a narrow space or small room, you may want to add some mirrors. Mirrors can help create an illusion of more space. White or light colored paint can also help a small space feel larger as well. Just make sure that your other furnishings will go with your paint choice.
Someone else's trash could be a treasure to you. Look at thrift stores and yard sales for items that you can clean or refinish to help furnish your room. This can save you money and can give you a great sense of pride in the item.
3. Recycle.
Find a way to recycle anything that you can think of. Old boxes and bottles can be spray painted and turned into instant treasures. You can even papier-mâché using old newspapers, pictures, or magazines. This can save space at the landfill and can be a fun activity that your kids will enjoy.
Scarves and scrap fabric can be used all over your home as wall decor. Pictures can be blown up and used as room dividers or you can have them made into mosaic tiles to help make a table into a personalized piece.
4. Look to nature.
Use plants and flowers in your decorating. Using plants in your home will make any space look more inviting and welcoming. You just want to make sure that they are taken care of and that they don't drop leaves all over your home!
Thinking out of the box will help you find items that you can use to decorate your home and make it the comfortable, restful place that you want and need!
