Asian Wedding Favours
When it comes to choosing your wedding favours to complement your occasion, colour is most definitely the key to getting it right.
Naturally, Asian weddings centre upon colour and so too should your favours.
Traditionally, wedding favours are very much a Western and European idea. 5 sugared almonds presented in a ceramic dish or small box were given to guests by brides as a “Thank You”. Usually, these were prepared and packed by the bride herself although these days many brides enlist the help of others as there are often so many to make. Each almond was said to represent the 5 wedding wishes; health, longevity, fertility, happiness and wealth.
Nowadays, many Asian and Western brides have moved away from this idea in keeping with modern bridal trends. Instead of confections, guests can expect to receive candles, coasters, soaps and even seed-sticks! However, the majority of weddings still feature delicious sweets presented in colour co-ordinated boxes.
If you wish to give your favours an Asian flavour, there are many ways in which this can be done. For example, if you wish to give your guests delicious Indian sweets, then why not give 5 of these in exotic orange and pink boxes? Or make special bomboniere with red and gold nets to team up with your own gown?
It is also becoming common for Asian brides to feature a chocolate fountain at their wedding in which case why don’t you fill favour boxes with brightly coloured sweets and fruit? You can then instruct your guests to take their boxes of goodies and dip them into the chocolate fountain. Some brides choose to pile up fruits, cakes and chocolates on charger plates for guests to help themselves. These look even more stunning when interspersed amongst large bowls full of highly coloured Indian herbs and spices. The visual effect is as intoxicating as the strong scent of such table decorations.
Maybe you don’t want to opt for edible favours in which case you may choose to give favours that your guests can enjoy for longer. There are so many choices available now that it makes the decision quite a feat. The main thing to consider though is choosing favours that are going to co-ordinate well with your overall theme.
Candle favours, soap favour and silver favours look fantastic at place settings and are guaranteed to get your guests talking. You may choose to ‘liven’ such favours up by tying them with brightly coloured ribbon. Co-ordinating ribbon can then be attached to your napkins too to complete the look.
If you are a fuss-free, plain and simple bride, looking to tone down the colourfulness of the day, why not go for a plain favour decorated with a simple lily or orchid? There is something quite elegant and understated about a small favour box tied with a pretty organza ribbon and topped with a paper lily. Alternatively, if you are a complete minimalist you could decorate each place setting with a simple orchid head presented in a clear acrylic box. Simple yet stunning!
