2006 Wedding Trends
The biggest words of the season are ribbons and lace. No, you don't need to look like an 80's throwback but somewhere in your plans you must include ribbons and lace to keep up with modern trends.
Designer wedding dresses have been paraded up and down the catwalk absolutely dripping with ribbons. These maybe around the waist, under the bust or trailing from the train. Some quirkier designers have also used ribbons in hair up styles. Of course, unless you are a model, you could look a bit silly on your big day if you go to these lengths.
Wedding dress trends can look dated very quickly and if you want to look back at your pictures without being horrified go for something more subtle. A great way to use ribbons successfully is to incorporate them in your bouquet and other floral decorations.
If you have a large frame or are short, trailing ribbons from your bouquet will add length making you look taller and slimmer. Team colours of your ribbons with those on favour boxes to ensure consistency. You could also choose wedding stationery and place cards that have ribbons on them to add to the idea.
Young bridesmaids can carry off trends better than older ones, so don't be afraid to give them a hairstyle that includes lots of ribbon. For older bridesmaids, perhaps choose co-ordinating ribbons and tie them to dorothy bags or drawstring pouches.
If you're a super sexy bride [and blessed with great legs] why not choose bridal shoes with ribbon that you can lace up around your ankles?
And, if you want something trendy that's for his eyes only, go for a few ribbons on your garter. Guaranteed to impress your groom!!!
Of course, on a more traditional note, lace is the big thing this season too. Beware though, because if you don't get it right, you could look like you've just stepped out of a charity shop. The key - as with any bridal gown - is in the shape.
The material plays a big part, but if you get the shape right, you can carry off any material you want. If you don't want to go for a completely lace dress, why not keep up with the trends with lace gloves, a lace train or a lace veil?
Team the romantic theme with classical flowers and favours and you're onto a winner. Again, if you only want to give the suggestion of lace, choose bridesmaid dresses with lace ties. Ensure the men aren't left out and get them to sport lace handkerchiefs in their top pockets - if you dare.
Don't be left looking frumpy this year - be the bride with her finger firmly on the pulse and ensure you incorporate ribbons and/or lace somewhere in your plans!
