The 2007 Volvo S80: Uniquely Scandinavian
Volvo’s name has always been associated with safety features that abound in their car models. The company’s vehicles produced have been receiving high marks in safety tests year after year. But their safety standards are not the only good thing about the cars they are mass producing, they are also known for their designs which are uniquely Scandinavian. Remaining true to its roots, the company uses in their car contemporary ethnically inspired design which up to now has been welcomed warmly by the public. Pushing the bar higher for themselves and their competitors, they are now going for the Scandinavian luxury theme in their newest installment of their luxury sedan which is the Volvo S80.
With the interior design of previously released vehicles from Volvo accepted eagerly by the public, the company sees it fit to continue what they are doing in terms of design and at the same time bring to the table a much improved engine performance of the Volvo S80. The company’s step to further increase the aesthetic value of their car is a good one since they are up against very tough competition with the likes of the Audi A6, the BMW 5 series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The new model will feature a more refined design based on the previous version to further increase the luxurious fell inside the car. Safety features, which the company is known for, will be abundant to ensure the safety of their consumers.
The performance of the car will also be better to that of the previous model. The newest version will stow under its hood a V8 engine borrowed from its brother, the Volvo XC90. The engine will also be a 4.4-litre V8 with a maximum output of 311 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque which is enough to power the car against its tough competition. To add stability to the Volvo S80 with the V8 engine, an all wheel drive configuration is bestowed upon it by the hardworking men behind the company. All the power from the V8 is transferred to all the wheels via a six-speed automatic or manual transmission which provides smooth gear shifting. Performance is also enhanced by high performance parts like the Volvo fan blade which helps keep the engine in its normal operating temperature.
The car is, of course, a Volvo and with that name, it carries a wide array of safety features some of which are standard on all Volvo vehicles. Aside from the legally mandated airbags and seatbelts, the car is also equipped with an adaptive cruise control which maintains a certain distance from the car directly ahead of it. Swiveling bi-Xenon headlights are also integrated giving the driver the convenience of better vision when turning on curves. And coming from the world’s leader in car safety, comes the first ever remote car unit. This device allows the user to monitor whether the car is locked or not from as far away as 330 feet, aside from that, the monitor can detect heartbeat for the driver to know if someone is inside the car.
