GM, Jay-Z Team Up On A Cutting-edge SUV Concept
General Motors teamed up with rapper Jay-Z to deliver a one-of-a-kind concept SUV. Said concept, which was previewed during a celebrity-filled party thrown by GM on the eve of the North American International Auto (NAIAS), is a mixture of chic hue and rugged appeal of a sport utility vehicle.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, worked with the company's global color studio to produce the 'Jay-Z Blue' paint color for the SUV. Said color was produced in a span of 2 years through the established partnership. "Hopefully I'll be able to drive one of them out of here tonight," Jay-Z said.
The world's largest automaker invited some celebrities to make the SUV concept revelation spectacular. Selected celebrities escorted new GM vehicles down a brightly lit catwalk inside an enormous tent along the Detroit River. Among the celebrities who posed with GM's pride vehicles include Carmen Electra, Jennifer Hudson, Vivica A. Fox, Rosie Perez, Christian Slater, Mario Lopez and Nick Lachey.
GM spokesman, Michael Albano, was earlier quoted saying that the hubbub in the NAIAS will be all about GM paying homage to all types of great design and style. "GM has a long history of being a style leader in terms of car design," Albano said." GM design is helping lead the company's turnaround." Albano's statement is now turning into reality and the recent auto preview is proving it.
The stars also shared their first car experience. Nick Lachey, Jessica Simpson's former husband who gained popularity as a member of boy band 98 Degrees, said his first car was a 1981 Toyota Corolla hatchback that was "full of rust." Now, he has a car and a truck. The brands of the vehicles were not disclosed. "I'm lucky to have a little of both worlds and do whatever you feel like driving that day," Lachey said.
According to Rosie Perez, who escorted the gold Pontiac Solstice Club Sport, she bought her first car, a Datsun B210, from a college classmate who 'had a terrible cocaine and crack habit. She was just like "I need money" and I said, "Give me your car _ 0.'" Eventually, Hollywood has been good to the actress. Now, she is driving a Volvo and Range Rover.
Pontiac Solstice is a roadster that was unleashed at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. The production of the roadster began in Wilmington, Delaware in mid-2005 for the 2006 model year. The façade of Solstice is inspired by the 2002 Solstice concept that preceded it. With the launching of the new variant with added features, the automaker expects that more aficionados would love it. Solstice Club Sport boasts its curvaceous structure; thanks to the elegance of Pontiac auto body parts.
Pontiac is now concentrating on taking Commodore to America as Pontiac G8. "We are seriously planning to import a lot of Commodore SS sedans as Pontiac G8s," product development chief Bob Lutz said. He added that the company could sell 50,000 G8s per year. "We are yet to officially announce it."
