Subaru Unveils Re-designed Legacy and Outback at the 2007 NAIAS
Subaru of America Inc. has unveiled its re-designed 2008 Subaru Legacy and Outback models at the 2007 North American International Auto Show at the Cobo Hall. Subaru has also presented its new flagship sedan - the Subaru legacy 3.0 R Limited which is the world’s first ever 6 cylinder Legacy model for the North American market.
Subaru is the industry’s pioneer of AWD or All-Wheel Drive. Recently, it has equipped all its models with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive as a standard feature. The Legacy 3.0 R is produced to compete against the midsize All-Wheel Drive performance sedans but unlike its rivals the 3.0 R has something more to offer like its performance-oriented paddle-shift transmission along with the Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) performance-control plus Bilstein Sport Suspension and 18 inch wheels and tires.
Each of the 2008 Legacy and Outback model lines are distinguished by its revised styling which features new grille complete with chrome crossbars plus a central Subaru logo that embodies the automaker’s aeronautical heritage. The 2008 Subaru Legacy features an all-new front sheet metal with larger grille opening. It also has new front and rear bumper fascias which are designed to reduce overhangs to provide it with a sportier and a more contemporary looks. Its brand new lines of Subaru parts for its headlights and taillights further boost the aesthetic appeal of the Legacy.
The Subaru Outback for its part was equipped with a new front sheet metal but with a larger and more upright grille that gives it a bolder look. It also equipped with re-designed fenders and hood for a more rugged appearance. The Outback was also given new fog lights and new wheels for both the XT and the rest of the six-cylinder models.
Both the Outback and the Legacy were given redesigned instrument panels and revised interior fabrics. Some features were also made standard for the Outback and Legacy lines such as the telescopic steering column and the new integrated ignition key/remote entry unit. Likewise, the distinctive electroluminescent gauges which are formerly found only on the turbo Legacy and Outback models are made part of the 2008 6-cylinder models.
The premium models will also be given a redesigned steering wheel with additional controls, including the audio system, cruise control, the multi-information display and separate SI-DRIVE controls. The advanced Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction system are also going to be offered for a number of Legacy and Outback models same with the Tire pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) which is now made into a standard feature among the Legacy and Outback models.
