Fiat, the biggest Italian automaker, is based in Turin, Northern Italy. The company was founded by a group of investors in the year 1899. The name of the automaker means 'let there be'. Prominent range of cars of Fiat includes Panda, Punto, Stilo, Idea, Croma, Ulysse and Doblò. Nowadays, Fiat runs famous firms such as Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Autobianchi, Fiat, Innocenti, Lancia, and Maserati. In fact, the luxury brand of Ferrari is also owned by Fiat. However, the latter is run autonomously. In the Fiat clan, Ferrari accounts for 3.2 percent of the light automobile sales for the fiscal year 2004.
Another milestone that can be attributed to Fiat is its excellence that has been recognized by several automobile authorities. Moreover, it is the only automaker, which has been given the European Car of the Year award for eleven times in a span of 40 years.
Today, Fiat is also awaiting other car enthusiasts as it invades the 2006 Paris Auto Show.
