Fear of Self Promotion
Being a good sales person is all about telling people what you have to offer, as well as why they should use your product or service. No matter what you are trying to sell, you will need to be confident in yourself. This way the person you are talking to feels that you are telling the truth, and that you really do have something great to offer them.
For some people, the fear of self promotion holds them back from being the best sales person that they can. The bottom line is that in sales you need to be able to talk about yourself, as well as what you are selling; this is called self promotion. When you master this you will be able to master your personal niche in the industry. But if you fall short in this area you may never reach your highest potential.
The fear of self promotion is when you do not like to talk about yourself, or what you have to offer. For example, you will call on a potential client and let them get you off track because you do not want to talk about who you are, and what you can do for them. In turn, you will then lose your confidence and end up getting nowhere in a short amount of time.
The key to beating the fear of self promotion is to become comfortable with who you are as a person. Did you know that there are many ways to promote yourself and your offerings without coming across as arrogant? Many people are under the false impression that self promotion is all about bragging. Sure, if you do not know how to do this right it can sound a bit like bragging. But there are ways that you can promote yourself and sound humble at the same time. Is this going to come to you right away? Probably not. Some people learn how to promote themselves in the best possible light quicker than others. But the good thing is that if you keep working at it, you will learn how self promotion can work for you, and how to use it to your advantage.
Getting over the fear of self promotion is not something that you can do overnight. You will need to practice your technique time and time again so that you get a good idea as to what is right and wrong.
As long as you face the fear of self promotion head on, you will get the results that you are after sooner rather than later. The biggest mistake that sales people make is that they give into their fear, and in turn never reach their full potential. If you can embrace self promotion you will find out that you are a better person in the long run.
