You should make sure that the company does not charge for support or have any hidden costs. The company should make it very clear what they offer for the fee and what is not supported.

Companies that have tutorials are helpful so as customers can look through them and see if they can manage their sites themselves. You tend to get what you pay for, so don’t go with a cheap web hosting site as the services will reflect this. A cheaper web hosting company will not offer support and they may make you have banner advertisements running of your site which can be off putting. You may think a large hosting company would be reliable and secure but this is not always the case. Some of the questions you need to ask are: How long the company has been in business? Is the current ownership the same as when it began? Are they successful profitable business?

You can find some of these questions out by talking to current or previous customers of the hosting company. Some companies will have success stories of their clients and if they do they should be only happy to pass you their details on. If the hosting company is unable to provide references from clients then this should speak volumes and I would stay well away.
