Spending Your Saturday Morning Painting the Ceiling? These Quick Tips Will Get You On the Golf Course In No Time.
The most dreaded part of any home improvement job is painting the ceiling. This project can be made easier if you have the right tools, know how to prepare the area properly and use the right paints.
If you are planning on repainting the ceiling in your home you want to make sure to have these essential items with you. Your tools, ladders, sponges, brushes, paint, tape, paint tray, and sandpaper. If you have any holes or cracks make sure to have plaster and filler. It is important to make sure that your ladder is very stable and has a place to keep your supplies so that you don’t need to keep going up and down the ladder. Prep your ceiling properly making sure to remove all fixtures before painting. Fill in all the wholes with spackle making sure to keep it as clean and flush as possible. The ceiling is probably the hardest part of the house to paint due to the constant reaching overhead and the need to move the ladder to reach the entire area. This alone can make it a real chore. When re-painting, be sure to remove any old paint that is peeling. Make sure to cover all the floors and furniture in the room that you are repainting. You will tend to splatter a little paint when you roll it, and there is nothing you can do to change it. It will also serve you well to wear old cloths, wear long sleeves and goggles to keep splashing paint from going in your eyes and skin. Not sure what is the best type of paint to use? With so many different products out there, no wonder it is difficult to choose the right one. If you are looking for paint that the easiest to keep clean, go with with the glossy sheen paint is the most durable. Use these paints in hallways and bedrooms. Try to avoid using flat eggshell paints on kitchen ceilings because these paints are hard to clean and the smoke from ovens will be a problem. For kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms you may want to go with satin paints. If you want a paint to go with the wallpaper and or cabinetry, go with the tints and shades. To give your ceiling the appearance of looking higher then it really is, a brilliant white is always a good choice.
What ever you choose, plan you project well ahead of time. Remember to take lots of breaks so that you do not hurt your neck and arms. Make sure that you have someone helping you out if you are going to be on a ladder for safety.
