Going Ape Over The Evo-Diet
An adventurous group of humans in the UK decided to eat like apes, literally, and while doing so found there were many health benefits to the plant-based diet.
This made-for-tv experiment had 9 volunteers set up camp next to the ape house at the Paignton Zoo in Devon. The volunteers, aged 36 to 49, took on the 12-day Evo Diet, consuming up to five kilos of raw fruit and veg a day. This meant no processed foods or saturated fats.
So how did they come out of it? Overall, cholesterol levels dropped significantly, so did blood pressure, and though it was not intended to be a weight loss diet, the participants dropped 4.4kg (9.7lbs), on average. For many it was a life-changing experience as they learned to eat more fruit and vegetables and lower salt intake while enjoying good energy levels and mood.
This creative experiment urges people to think about their health. And what a fun way to bring healthy eating to the public’s attention while reminding everyone to eat their daily recommended portion of fruit and veggies, especially with obesity on the rise. It’s simple - get back to the food basics and see your health improve - fast!
