3 Steps for Nourishing Your Body
What is nourishment? You may be thinking: rejuvenation…vitamins…food…support for your body…nutrients…minerals
All of these things are part of nourishment and make up some of what we need. I define nourishment in the following way: Nourishment is whatever you consume to feed your soul!
Many of us have forgotten how to nourish our bodies. We may go through our days, months, and years without stopping to ask our self: Am I enjoying life? Am I being nourished? Is my soul fed and filled with creativity and vitality? If the answer is “no”, none of us are “bad”. We just haven’t taken the time to slow down and examine the things that influence our habits. Once we become aware of this, we have to take the time to determine what feeds our soul.
So what can you do to nourish your body?
Incorporate Vital Vittles…Eat Whole Foods Most people are aware that the food we consume plays a big role in our day-to-day walk in life. However, as we go through our day, we passively put food in our mouths without thinking about how it really affects us. I am sure we do not think to ourselves: Am I nourishing my body with what I just ate? That is okay. We cannot change our way of eating at once. Perhaps asking that very question is an initial step for you. If it is, it will bring you one step closer to the nourishment you deserve.
Increasing your intake of whole foods is a step closer to true nourishment. Eating foods that are from the earth is so valuable. Whole foods are protective, rejuvenative, and provide valuable nutrition that we all need. Increasing whole grains and green leafy vegetables will give you the essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals that are missing from the modern diet. By decreasing the amount of chemicalized and artificial foods we consume, we begin to take action on feeding our souls. A good way to begin incorporate foods closer to the source into your diet is by substitution and consuming gentler foods. Instead of whole milk, try almond or soy milk. Instead of soda, drink iced herbal tea. Instead of refined sugar, try honey.
Make Empowering Life Choices…Focus Off the Plate In addition to consuming whole foods, we can have nourishment by living whole lives. Indulging in activities that feed your soul will help you focus on the off-the-plate messages that your body is sending you. Healthy relationships, a fruitful career, regular movement, and a spiritual connection are part of a healthy balance. Like with the actual foods, you can ask yourself: Am I nourishing my body with my actions? No matter what the answer is, you are yet another step closer to the nourishment you deserve.
Taking the time to think about what will make your life extraordinary is a powerful step. Perhaps it’s starting that business you always wanted to start. Maybe it’s creating a home-spa and developing self-care rituals. Even observing what makes you feel like you are connected to your higher sense of self, will make you feel more nourished. Asking honest and important questions to yourself will help you discover the areas of your life that are imbalanced.
Integrate Vital Vittles with Empowering Choices Integrating healthy foods and activities is the next important step to nourishing your body. Doing one step without the other will create greater imbalance and keep you from your ultimate happiness. Taking action towards what you truly desire can happen in small steps. It is essential that you nourish yourself in every moment. From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep, making conscious decisions about what you put in, on, and around your body is a part of empowerment. Nurture and honor yourself by getting support around the malnourished areas of your life. When you take the time to honor yourself, you will notice a drastic difference with how you approach life.
Making nourishment a top priority will empower you to have renewed health and self-image. By developing the different areas of your life and integrating them, you can begin to take responsibility for your health and well-being and achieve greater balance. Commit to making nourishment a part of your regular daily practice. The more you practice it, the more you will develop the level of creativity and vitality that you desire. After all, you deserve it!
