Back Acne- What YOU Need to Know
For some people, getting back acne is not as bad as getting facial acne.It is bad enough when you suffer from acne on your face, but what about back acne. After all, skin imperfections on one’s back are easier to hide under a layer of clothing - unless he or she has to wear a swimsuit to spend time at the beach or pool. In such cases, back acne can cause feelings of self-consciousness; no matter how attractive a person's body is, having zits or pimples on one's back can be disconcerting, not to mention uncomfortable.
The causes of back acne - or "bacne" - are pretty much similar to what causes pimples to emerge on other parts of the body. The back is filled with sebaceous glands, which secrete a kind of oil called sebum. If excessive amounts of this oil are produced and not removed immediately, the pores and the hair follicles on a person's back will become clogged, which then encourages bacteria to attack and inflame skin tissue. Back acne is the result of this. Chest and back acne is more prevalent in males. Back acne is sometimes more difficult to treat because some of the lesions can become deep and inflamed.
It is then very important to make sure that one's back is kept clean and free of dead cells in order to prevent back acne. Regular bathing and exfoliation is important. It is also advisable to keep the skin free from perspiration; wiping one's back dry after strenuous activity or changing a sweat-soaked shirt as soon as possible would discourage pimples on the back from forming.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that the pressure and chafing that results from wearing tight clothing or carrying heavy backpacks can contribute to back acne. Perhaps it would be best then to wear looser-fitting clothes at least some of the time, or try alternating the use of backpacks with other types of bags - those that do not put weight or pressure on the back. A person does not have to totally give up wearing tight clothes or using backpacks; he or she just has to learn to balance them with the use of other objects to minimize the risk of getting back acne.
Mild cases of bacne can be treated with over-the-counter medications and other skin care formulations. Some of these medications contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Those interested in natural back acne remedies may try using soaps, creams, and ointments that contain ingredients such as tea tree oil, neem, and basil. Another thing that might be able to help treat the back acne is a mixture of lye soap ad tea tree oil. These herb extracts are beneficial for those suffering from nearly all types of acne because they have anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties. In addition to helping treat pimples, they can also restore the skin's suppleness and smoothness.
More severe cases of back acne, or infected pimples that have developed into pustules or cysts, will require the specialized care of a dermatologist or other skin specialists. If the back acne is stubborn in nature, a doctor may may prescribe for you an oral prescription of antibiotics like tetracycline or minocycline. Left untreated, these blemishes will develop into deep and unsightly scars that may be permanent. Taking measures to prevent and treat back acne is always in your best interest; your skin will look and feel good, and your back will thank you for it.
