All about Junk Food
Whenever we think snacks, we think French fries, burgers and pastries. Little wonder then that ‘snacks’ come with the tag of being unhealthy and fattening. People eat fast food mainly to satiate their hunger in between mealtimes or when there is a shortage of time and they want a quick, non messy munch.
Initially, it was cool to eat on the run and it became a stylish habit. The problems started when the health fraternity realized that this particular style of food labeled fast food and even junk food was very high in calories but nutritionally very hollow. So began the tirade against junk food.
But it’s not for nothing that such food is called junk food. There is ample reason for this notorious popularity. This kind of food is linked to obesity, diabetes, polycystic ovary, cholesterol problems, arthritis, asthma attacks, and many more serious problems. The reason: these foods are nutritionally deficient but very high in calories.
Cut down the indulgence
But the real problem is that most of us know that the junk food we love is actually doing us no good. However, just because it is easy to get from any fast food corner and maybe out of desperate hunger - we tend to indulge in it. For many people, eating junk food is also a matter of habit - it is a kind of addiction where they continue eating such unhealthy snacks, even if they have other choices.
But if you are clever enough and care for your body, it would be a good idea to break this addiction and look for some alternatives.
But what kind of alternatives are there? Most of us just cannot resist a nice fluffy juicy burger, and none of those ‘healthy foods’ seem tasty enough.
But if you look around carefully, there are some snacks that can be healthy and easily accessed too. So, next time you feel hunger pangs, maybe you can go in for some baked or roasted healthy snacks, nuts and oil seeds, sun - dried fruits, sun - dried vegetables or roasted soy.
Evil vs. Good
Now, you may ask why these are better than your favorite burger? These snacks are definitely healthier in comparison because they are full of minerals (nutritionally dense). As a result, all what we need for healthy skin, hair, heart etc is fulfilled. Healthy foods also make sure that the sugar levels in our body are under control because they contain minerals such as chromium.
Healthy snacks also contain natural oils and many seeds have the heat - friendly oleic acid (oil) unlike artificially generated trans-fatty acids which have been linked with asthma, high cholesterol, and many other disorders. Natural oils balance the hormones in our body and lend a luster and glow to the skin and lubricate the internal membranes too.
Also, the carbohydrates found in natural state satiate hunger without leading to fat deposition because they are gradually digested carbs, which do not upset the insulin levels in the body. The proteins in such snacks are vegan based; therefore they do not contribute towards heart disorders or arthritis. They are also full of phyto hormones, natural enzymes and antioxidants which contribute towards anti -aging, prevention and even ‘reversal’ of many diseases.
