Causes of obesity
Many people these days have overweight problems. It not only causes medical problems like heart attack, clogged arteries, diabetes and other sickness, it may also lowers the self confidence of a person since the body may not look good physically. The difficulty of performing certain physical movements like sports and flexibility further adds to this frustration.
There are many reasons for gaining weight but the major ones are the unhealthy foods we eat and a lack of exercise.
The usual culprit that causes weight gain in foods are refined carbohydrates. They are found in common foods like white bread and white rice. It causes blood sugar to be present in the bloodstream. The body has to secret insulin to lower it. Blood sugar are carried to cells for energy and the excesses will be turned to fats by insulin.
Sugar is another component that causes weight gain. It appears in soft drinks, cakes, pastries, ice cream and chocolates. The adding of sugar in dishes, coffee and tea further aggravates the problem.
The eating of fatty and high cholesterol foods immediately add fats to our fat cells. There are saturated fat in diary products like milk, cheese, cream and butter. Trans fat are added to food products like french fries, potato chips, hamburgers and hot dogs.
A busy hectic lifestyle combined with a lack of exercise is another major factor in weight gain. Exercise actually helps to burn fats in the body. So a lack of it not only causes fats to build up but it may also cause other sickness to appear.
A common cause in weight gain is drinking too much alcohol. It not only causes insulin release and fat storage but is also toxic for the body.
Caffeine is also a common cause in weight gain. Caffeine in coffee and tea raises blood sugar and tires the adrenal glands, both causing weight gain.
One final component common in modern day life is stress. Stress actually cause a hormone called cortisol to be produced. This hormone causes the body to gain weight. Also, people uses heavy eating as a means to divert attention from the stress they are facing, further causing weight gain.
Since there are so many negatives to being overweight. It would be better to throw out the unhealthy habits and begin to eat healthy nutritious foods and start a regular exercise routine.
